Wow! Wasn't even aware of this issue until your post. Found the article below & was against it, but then I thought crossing a border illegally is illegal (I know it's a strange concept that crossing an imaginary line is illegal but then again so are certain plants) so the punishment is a room, with food, until they put you back across the imaginary line until you decide at some point to try again... point is taxpayers are paying for the transportation, food, room, why not do a little work until you're brought back home...? https://www.thenation.com/article/ices-captive-immigrant-labor-force/
It most definitely is addictive. Addiction treatment specialists have seen firsthand that long term use leads to addiction and withdrawal symptoms.
It may not be as addictive and bad for you as “harder” drugs, but it is a gateway that leads to down that path.
That model of society could easily become practice if major genetic modification became standard practice. Is that a world we want to live in?

It doesn’t prove it but it gives researchers a much better idea. All mammals are descended from common ancestors, so humans are biologically very similar to other mammals. Of course there are minor differences, but they are outweighed by the remarkable similarities.
Drugs go through human trials after animal testing shows that they won’t kill people. To suggest stopping animal testing is to rush the process.
