E-Sports, or electronic sports, are organized leagues of competitive computer gaming. Seems lame, right? Well people love it – a lot of people.  Viewership for eSports in 2015 was 134 million viewers and growing fast. Tournaments are filling stadiums and it’s projected to be a billion-dollar industry come 2017. So people love it, but does that make it a sport? Dictionary.com defines a sport as “an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another for entertainment.” Let’s break that down. Teams compete against each other – check, entertainment – check, skill – check, physical exertion – debatable. I would say no, but then I think of all the other so called “sports” that don’t require physical exertion like chess. I think the definition of sports is changing and we could see eSports eventually become more popular than traditional sports. It may not happen in our lifetime, but eventually.
