Brock Turner

Brock Turner, the Stanford swimmer who raped an unconscious woman, just received 6 months in jail for his crime. Brock’s father was quoted saying, “that is a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action out of his 20 plus years of life.” Sorry Mr. Turner, but that is not how it works. It doesn’t matter how long the crime takes to occur, it matters the gravity of the crime. It would take me less than 20 minutes to grab a gun and kill someone, yet it would take me about an hour to download an illegal movie torrent off the internet. Does that mean that the murder, because it took less time, should be the lesser crime? Obviously, it doesn’t work that way. Brock did a very bad thing and just because he is a wealthy, white boy from a good family doesn’t mean he shouldn’t have to do jail time.
