Taxing Religious Institutions

Religious institutions should be taxed just like any other corporation. They take in money just like non-profits and they should have to give some of it back to the government. If we do not tax them we have combined church and state. I am not saying that I hate religion and that churches should always be taxed, but they should have to go through the normal channels to be considered a non-profit society. They should be able to have tax write offs for their charitable donations, just as everyone else is able to do. In this modern society churches shouldn’t take priority receiving tax exemption over equally deserving societies such as secular, scientific, or atheistic.
