The FR A-10 Thunderbolt II
The Fairchild Republic A-10 "Warthog" is the best fighter plane the US Military has. It may be the oldest still in service, and the slowest, and the least areobatic, but it's still the best. It's designed for close air support, or CAS, and carries a miriad of weapons, probably the most famous being the GAU-8, a badass hydraulic rotary cannon. I don't think I've met someone who didn't like this plane, and I myself dreamed of piloting it, so when I heard it was going to deserviced around 2021, I was quite heartbroken.
The Air Force doesn't like it, but it works too well for them to get rid of them, and I don't know what would replace the A-10 after it's deserviced, if they replace it at all. What do you guys think about it's proposed date to be deserviced, and/or whether it's a good idea?
